Enjoyed listening to your discussions on the 4th wall. One stand out was the phrase “calling in fic.” I’ll have to remember that.

I listened to this episode of TPP for the first time this week, and it was a great exploration of what it means to break the fourth wall. It also reminds me of something that bothered me when I first watched The Empty Hearse. It was a moment in the Landmark restaurant scene when Sherlock is impersonating a waiter and is trying to get John to notice him. When Sherlock says “…like a face from the past” and whips his glasses off, only to have John not even look at him — this first time I watched this, I thought Benedict looked directly at the camera and it made me feel really weird, it just felt so wrong, and was really distracting (I’ve since watched the episode many more times and now I’m not sure if he does look at the camera or not). Listening to this episode of your podcast, I now realise why it felt so wrong. Because there is meant to be a fourth wall, and in Sherlock, characters don’t look at the audience. Anyway, just a random comment, I enjoyed the show (both of them).
